Miami Institute For The Social Sciences Summer Workshop
The inaugural three-day summer workshop at the Miami Institute is bringing together scholars in the social sciences, leaders and practitioners in nonprofits and philanthropy, and organizers embracing solidarity economy and mutual aid models to discuss the past and present of social science funding within and beyond the United States and ways that experiences with cooperative economic models around the world might inform the funding of the social sciences today. The Miami Institute is coordinating this workshop in dialogue with the DiSE Collective in Kerala, India and Toronto, Canada. We will be meeting over the span of three Thursdays in June 2021, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm Eastern Time. Here is the link to register! Our summer workshop poster is attached, with live links.
If you missed it, please also access the virtual Q&A among authors of the Miami Institute’s philosophy forum, recorded on May 13th. Part of the Miami Institute’s inaugural forums, which began with a focus on the field of economics, this forum on the field of philosophy had the following question: In philosophy, is there discrimination and bias against the Global Majority? Relatedly, how can we imagine the field without white Anglo-American domination in universities & research funding? Please follow this link to watch the recording of the Miami Institute’s philosophy forum virtual Q&A, and here are the written essays forming the foundation of this discussion. Please also check out our latest episodes in the ‘Café en casa’ series, a Miami Institute-NCOBPS collaboration.
